Former CM Chouhan also said that the Commission should also seriously contemplate on those recommendations which were given by Committee of CMs during 14th Finance Commission

“A MAJOR portion of Madhya Pradesh is under forest cover and a sizeable population resides in forest area. The State has rich mineral resources with which the State can be developed more. Therefore, Madhya Pradesh should be given more share on its resources,” said former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during a meeting with Chairman of 15th Finance Commission N K Singh in the State capital on Thursday. Chouhan also said that the Commission should also seriously contemplate on those recommendations which were given by Committee of CMs during 14th Finance Commission. Chouhan informed that Madhya Pradesh’s 15 lakh hectare land is under forest cover. Owing to this, cost of any scheme which has to be implemented goes high.

Apart from this, owing to dense forest cover, the State has to contribute more in CAMPA fund. Hence, the State should get more money under this particular head. Chouhan also said that more than 22 per cent population of the State is tribal hence there is need to ensure development in those regions where tribals live. Special provision should be made to amass funds for tribals under various heads including economic development, social development and education.

This will help in bringing tribals into the main stream. Stating that unlike Bihar, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh is also rich in mineral resources. As control of all mineral resources is in the hands of Central Government hence appropriate share should be given to Madhya Pradesh on profit coming on its mineral resources. On the occasion, other members of 15th Finance Commission were also present.
