The half-day protest staged by Junior Doctors Association (JuDA), badly hampered medical and treatment service at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College and Hospital on Thursday. The junior doctors, under the leadership of President, Dr Akshay Bhargava and Secretary, Dr Rahul Gupta, assembled in front of Dean’s office and shouted slogans against the anti-student policies of the administration.

According to the Association, junior doctors were deprived of their stipend for three months. Despite repeated reminders, no higher authority was ready to take their issue seriously. They visited Dean office with their demands and on July 1, they clearly warned him of going on strike if their demand was not fulfilled by Thursday. Due to lack of positive response on the part of medical administration, JuDA went on strike, leaving poor patients in dilemma.

Association President, Dr Akshay Bhargava, while talking to this newspaper, claimed that, only routine OPD was hampered during their strike. Emergency services remained undisturbed as we don’t want the patients to feel the burns of disarray between JuDA and Medical administration. The half-day protest will continue till Saturday and if the administration failed to take any initiative to fulfill their demands, they will decide their further strategies to intensify their protest on Sunday. Meanwhile, poor patients who approached Jabalpur Medical College and Hospital from far-flung areas, without any pre-information about JuDA strike, had to bear the pain. Although senior doctors came to the rescue of patients, but their limited numbers made them helpless.
