DISHEARTENED and frustrated by indifferent approach of MPBSE officials in giving grace marks needed to pass a subject, a Singrauli-based student who appeared in class X Board exam last year created ruckus outside Education Minister’s bungalow and threatened to immolate self on Thursday. Talking to the media at the venue, 21-year-old student, Shyam Das, claimed to be visiting State capital several times along with his class 10 failed marksheet for over an year and met officials at the Collectorate as well as MPBSE but was unable to get five grace marks needed in Maths to pass high school exam even after moving from pillar to post. He got 28 marks.

On Thursday morning, he reached the residence of Education Minister Prabhuram Choudhary at 74 Bungalow to meet him where he was stopped by security personnel and he lost his cool. He then threatened to immolate self by pouring kerosene oil which he had brought with himself in a plastic bottle which was later taken away and TT Nagar police was informed. SHO of TT Nagar Virendra Chouhan said that by the time we reached there, he was already taken to MPBSE office in MP Nagar by staff of Education Minister and here he was counselled by Additional Secretary Sheela Dahima.

According to SHO of MP Nagar Manish Rai, “The student tried these gimmicks to end life since a long time and he had issues regarding his marksheet only. Hence, no case was registered against him.” Public Relation Officer (MPBSE) S K Chaurasiya, when contacted, said that he had appeared in class X exam in 2017 and failed in all subjects after which officials of MP Board helped him in appearing in Board exam again in 2018 but he only secured 28 marks in Maths and also got failed in another subject and was insisting to give grace marks which is not possible.
