Officials asked to conduct plantation drive

Additional Chief Secretary of Forest Department and Bilaspur District In-charge Secretary R P Mandal held a meeting with officials from Bilaspur division at the Collectorate in Bilaspur on Saturday. Addressing the meeting, R P Mandal asked the officials to conduct a plantation drive and distribution of saplings in all gauthans and grazing land. Mandal directed the officials to adopt scientific approach for implementation of Narva, Garwa, Ghurwa and Badi scheme.
 
The Additional Chief Secretary asked the officials to adopt scientific method for treatment of drains under the Narva scheme. Minimum 400 saplings will be planted in one gauthan while 2,000 saplings will be planted in every grazing land. The collectors have been asked to monitor the plantation drive in the districts. Moreover, plantation drive will be conducted along the banks of Sheonath, Shabri, Kharun and Arpa rivers. The plantation drive will be conducted through the funds of Chhattisgarh Hariyar Yojana, MNREGA and the department. All the divisional forest officers (DFOs) have been directed to provide space for plantation and arrange safety of the planted trees.
 
The Additional Chief Secretary of Forest Department directed the officials to identify 10 to 15 acres of land for City Forest in every district and the City Forest should be developed by October 2. Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) Rakesh Chaturvedi said that the Forest Department would provide saplings to the people who want to plant saplings. Chaturvedi directed the DFOs to start free of cost distribution of saplings. Divisional Commissioner B L Banjare, Bilaspur Collector Dr Sanjay Alang, Collector Mungeli Dr Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure, Korba Collector Kiran Kaushal, Janjgir Collector Janak Pathak, Raigarh Collector Yashwant Kumar, chief executive officers of Zila Panchayats, divisional forest officers and other officers attended the meeting.
