Ten turtles seized, two smugglers held

Two teams of forestmen and people for Animals arrested two persons, seized 10 Indian Tent Turtles from them at Agrasen Chowk, Central Avenue, and Activa vehicles from them on Friday night. On a tip-off about smuggling of turtles, forestmen and workers reached Agrasen Chowk, near Durgah, caught red-handed Rishikesh Pradeep Jadhav (20), a resident of Plot No: 2, Swami Vivekanand Nagar, near PSC, Kanhan in Parseoni tehsil, and Ashish Rajendra Khobragade (25), a resident of Pipri, Kanhan, in possession of the 10 turtles and seized the turtles falling Schedule I category under Wildlife Protection Act.
 
Forestmen produced both the accused before Judicial Magistrate First Class, Court No: 6, here that granted them Forest Custody Remand (FCR) till July 8. An offence has been registered against them under Sections 9, 39, 44, 48A, 50 and 51 of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
 
The raid was conducted under the guidance of Prabhunath Shukla, Deputy Conservator of Forest, by Surendra Kale, Assistant Conservator of Forest, Vijaykumar Gangawane, Range Forest Officer, Seminary Hills, M V Patil, round Officer, Lakadganj, V M Charde, N L Wagh, Kishor Kadwe, L D Atkulwar, Giripunje, M W Mohte, l J Chafle and others. Forestmen are making further investigation in the matter.
