The heavy downpour in city not only brought down the temperature, but also inundated low lying areas of different wards with rain water. The sky remained cloudy throughout the day and rainfall or drizzling continued to occur at regular intervals. After the occurrence of drizzling for some time, heavy rain started lashing the city from 11 am. The occurrence of rainfall inundated the low lying areas of city with rainwater. As the sky had been clouded in last two days, occurrence of heavy downpour was expected. A total 60.4 mm rainfall occurred from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm.
 
A total 334.6 mm rainfall has occurred in this season so far. Whereas in previous year, 2 mm rainfall had occurred on the same day and a total 138.9 mm rainfall had occurred in the season. According to the information provided by Meteorological Department, cyclone formed over the southern Utter Pradesh has entered in to border of Madhya Pradesh. The occurrence of rainfall and cloudy sky has brought down the maximum temperature.
 
The maximum temperature registered on Monday was 26.2 degrees Celsius, which is 7 degrees below the normal maximum temperature. Whereas, the maximum temperature registered in previous year on the same day was 36.3 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature registered on Monday was 24.4 degrees Celsius, which is normal. Whereas, the minimum temperature registered on the same day was 25 degrees Celsius in previous year. South western wind is blowing with speed of 4 km per hour. The relative humidity has also increased due to occurrence of rainfall. The relative humidity recorded in the morning was 88 percent.
 
According to the weather forecast of Meteorological Department, rain and thundershowers are likely to occur at many places of division in next 24 hours. Anti-encroachment drive at Madan Mahal hills suspended: Following incessant rain, which lashed the city for hours, the district administration, on Monday, had to stop the joint drive, which has been executed to make Madan Mahal hills encroachment-free. However, the people whose houses were marked as illegal were busy shifting their domestic articles to safer places. While some people remained engaged in taking out doors, windows, wooden panels and other useful things from their vacant dwellings situated on the hills.
 
It is learnt that, a number of people, whose houses were dismantled by the administration, are still living in tents on the hills as they don’t want to go to Tilhari, where the administration is rehabilitating the oustees. People are of the view that the administration is shifting people to open land, which is unsafe for living during rains. It may be noted that, district administration, along with Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC), is carrying out a joint to raze permanent structures situated on Madan Mahal hills. At present, the anti-encroachment squad is bulldozing permanent structures located on hills in Siddhanagar.
 
The district administration is conducting the joint drive following the directions of the Madhya Pradesh High Court to make Madan Mahal hills encroachment-free and to protect historic monuments situated on the hills. The administration has, so far, dismantled thousands of big and small permanent structures and still to remove a number of houses situated at different parts of Madan Mahal hills. The district administration and civic body have also dismantled a number of religious places situated on the hills. The administration has made a plan to develop the hills as tourist spot. It is making workplan to develop ropeway and other similar things to promote tourism on the hills
