Responding to the model curriculum proposed by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for Master of Business Administration (MBA) course, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) has restructured the course. Board of Studies of Management Studies has made the course more inclusive, participative. AICTE wanted to make the business management course more relevant and enhance employability of the graduates.

The Board of Studies in Business Management had appointed a sub-committee under Chairmanship of Dr Vinayak Deshpande for restructuring of the MBA curriculum. Lot of good changes took place since Dr Sanjay Kavishwar became Chairman of Board of Studies of Management Studies, RTMNU. He along with Dr Sujit Metre, Professor, Dr Ambedkar Institute of Management Studies and Research worked under Dr Deshpande to make needed changes in the curriculum. In all, more than 45 MBA teachers were involved in restructuring the curriculum. Few industry professionals were also consulted to know the expectations of industries from fresh MBA graduates.

The revised program structure has been approved by all the authorities concerned of the University and a ‘Direction’ to this effect is likely to be issued soon. Now, the course will make the Outcome Based Assessment. The revised curriculum for MBA is outcome based -- the program is having pre-defined objectives. To attain these objectives, each course/subject of the curriculum has course outcomes the attainment of which is measurable as the focus is not ‘what student will know’ but ‘what student will be able to do’. This will bring in a radical change in delivery of curriculum and the assessment methods. In new curriculum, as per the structured induction program, an induction program for fresh MBA students has been made mandatory.

This program includes variety contents such as acting techniques, creative body movements and voice culture to sharpen the communication skills of students. It also includes games and sports along with Yoga and Zumba which shall help students to give importance to fitness. Along with this, the Indian ethos and values shall also be discussed as a part of induction program in addition to self-exploration of the students. The objective of this program is to make the student ready to pursue higher education in business management. Massive Online Open Courses commonly referred to as SWAYAM courses in Indian academia have been made mandatory for the first time in RTMNU.

Although facilitating students for the same poses a big challenge, this initiative shall provide students a big platform for choice-based credit system and an opportunity to learn beyond his/her own discipline. Lot many things are being talked on increasing employability. This new curriculum has taken well care of the same. Now there will be exit seminar. The outgoing student of an MBA program will be required to give an exit seminar showcasing the knowledge he/she has gained, the attitude he/she has developed and most importantly the skills he/she has acquired. A rigorous and objective assessment mechanism for the same has also been devised. This seminar shall ensure the greater amount of employability in students. Everybody is aware of Marketing, Finance and Human Resources as specialisation courses. New curriculum has included a few new specialisation areas such as ‘Business Analytics’, ‘Entrepreneurship Development’ and ‘International Business’. Apart from this, new courses are introduced including managerial skills for effectiveness, CSR and sustainability, management case analysis, analytics for business decision making, financial reporting.
