Tigress, two cubs die after consuming poisoned calf

Chandrapur Bureau: In a shocking incident, a tigress and its two cubs were found dead in Chimur Forest Range in Chandrapur district on Monday morning. The tigress and its cubs died after eating a dead calf (killed by some animal) that was poisoned by a local farmer. The farmer wanted to take revenge of the animal that had killed the calf. So he inserted poison into the dead calf. According to the information, some villagers of Metepar, who went near village canal to pluck some fruits, were shocked to see the carcass of tigress and its two cubs in the area.
 
On being informed, the forest officials including Chief Conservator of Forest, Chandraupr Circle, S V Ramarao and other higher officials reached the spot for inspection. The carcasses were found at a farmland near the village canal on Monday morning at Shankarpur Round of Chimur Forest Range in the district. During course of investigation, the forest officials got the information that a farmer namely Pandurang Chaudhari from Metepar village reportedly inserted Themet poison into calf that was killed by a predator to take revenge.
 
“However, the tigress and its two cubs consumed the poisoned calf and died on the spot. During the interrogation, the farmer Chaudhari confessed about his involvement in this regard,”informed Ramarao while talking to The Hitavada. Further, the CCF Ramarao added that the carcasses were later shifted to Khadsangi rest house after necessary formalities. The veterinary doctors performed postmortem on tigress and its two cubs including a male and female one. The forest officials cremated the tigress and the cubs at Khansangi rest house after postmortem.
 
The samples have already been sent to forensic lab to find out actual cause of death felines. Chaudhari, farmer, has been taken into custody. Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar has ordered to conduct a detailed investigation into deaths of the tigress and two cubs.He also ordered to investigate all aspects including poaching angle by the competent authority and strict action against the culprits. He also instructed the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) to take necessary measures to avoid such incident in the future.
