ADIEU, AMLA
   Date :10-Aug-2019

IN THE span of one week, Test cricket has seen the departure of two astounding performers who lent a special touch to the game with their class and classicism. After the retirement of pace ace Dale Steyn, South Africa bid adieu to Hashim Amla as he called time on his illustrious career, on Thursday. With Amla’s exit, the game of cricket has lost another batsman who thrived on classic stroke play even in the formats that essentially called for power hitting.

At one time, Amla forced himself among the top batters of his time with a dogged approach and tremendous belief in old school batting style. That it served the South African successfully in a 15-year career yet again proves that class remains permanent even in the fast-changing world of cricket. Even off the field, Amla was a thorough gentleman, keeping away from controversies and leading a peaceful life. His refusal to wear an alcohol brand logo as his religion did not permit it was hailed as a courageous and right stand. South Africa has a task to fill the void left by the exit of Steyn, AB de Villiers and now Amla.
