BETTER COMPLIANCE
   Date :14-Aug-2019

WHAT strict implementation of laws can achieve is being experienced by the enforcement authorities in the country. Union Company Affairs Secretary Mr. Injeti Srinivas has reported that now there is “lot of soul-searching” at corporate houses as the Government authorities have begun to follow the laws strictly and there is a perceptible change in the behaviour of corporates seen in compliance of regulations and rules at board level. In some cases the enforcement authorities had to wield the stick to discipline derelict auditors. Corporate boards and auditors are now being held accountable for whatever may occur at their level as in the case of auditors of IL&FS scam.

Not that the regulations were not in existence, there was a general lack of will to use them against erring corporate houses. Such a vigil would begin to pay rich dividends as there is now greater awareness and introspection among auditors, company boards. With change of attitude at company and auditor levels there is going to be much transparency.

MAKING A POINT

PRIME Minister Mr. Narendra Modi actually stunned the world by his participation in a cross-country safari with adventurer Mr. Bear Grylls through difficult terrain that included a short trip across a Himalayan river on a make-shift raft. During the easy-going conversations on the trip with Mr. Grylls, the Prime Minister demonstrated a rare courage and confidence in his physical as well as mental fitness. “I never feel nervousness. I am a positive thinker,” he said as he confronted tough points on the safari. This rare show of courage by a leader of such a stature will add a very special flavour to international tourism in India and deliver a strong green message to everybody.

Though he held a make-shift machete in his hand for both, protection and support, Mr. Modi insisted that he never liked taking a life. That small statement has endeared him to countless people. In the wilderness, too, Mr. Modi appeared calm and collected all along, making his adventurer-partner happy. But more happy were countless lakhs of Indians who watched the show!
