General insurance workers stage demonstration

As per the decision taken in Secretariat of General Insurance Employees All India Association (GIEAIA) staged country wide demonstrations on Wednesday. The employees are against Government policy of dismantling public sector undertakings, disinvestment in public sector general insurance (PSGI) companies, merger of 44 Labour Laws into 4 codes to help corporates and demanding merger of all four PSGI companies instead of three, recruitment of class III employees, early talks on wage revision pending since August 2017, updation of pension, increase in family pension and scrapping of National Pension System (NPS).
 
At Nagpur, the PSGI employees gathered and raised slogans against Government. The demonstrations were staged in front of Regional Office of Oriental Insurance Company Ltd., situated at Nelson Square, Chhindwara Road, under the leadership of Vinay Karpe Regional Secretary, General Insurance Employees’ Union (GIEU) Western Zone and Prashant Dixit, Joint Secretary of GIEU (WZ) and Working Committee Member of GIEAIA.
 
After agitation, a gate meeting was organised. Prashant Dixit addressed the agitating employees. He said, Government has decided to unstable public sector undertakings in the name of disinvestment paving a way for privatization. He said, 44 Labour Laws brought under 4 codes just to favour corporates. Not only PSGI companies but other public sector industries are also under the threat of privatization like BSNL and Defense sector. He said, Defence employees are observing one month strike to fight back Government’s plan to corporatise them.
 
It is need of hour for the employees of all public sectors to unite and struggle jointly against anti-employees and anti-public sector policy of Government, he said. He added that employees also have to struggle hard for updation of pension, increase in family pension and scrapping of NPS. He said, “GIPSA will also take note of anger of employees and initiate discussion on long pending wage revision and also proceed further for recruitment of assistants.” Large number of PSGI employees and retired employees participated in the demonstrations. Chandrakant Deshpande, Deepak Gotmare, Vivek Bhalekar, Anil Ghodmare, Shyam Bhalerao, Pankaj Sawalkar, Ramesh Bhagat, Sunil Tambe, Keshav Chincholkaran and Kiran Bhosle were present.
