Sony SAB is known for its rib-tickling content and there are quite a few shows that are a hot favourite with the young and old alike. The USP of these shows are that they have been created with the sole intent of ensuring that ‘families sit together and enjoy the shows.’ So while Tarak Mehta Ka Ulta Chashma tops the chart, Jijaji Chhat Per Hain (JCPH) follows close behind. But the cast of JCPH is sporting enough to say that they don’t mind to be number two. While interacting with The Hitavada, Anup Upadhyay, who plays the role of Murari quips, “We look at the competition as healthy and we welcome it.

There has to be a benchmark, else how can we improve.” And the team, including the writers, director and cast, are working hard towards garnering more eyeballs. While explaining in detail about the progress of the show whose USP is its very different story line, Nikhil Khurana, playing the role of Pancham, doesn’t hesitate to state that there is a huge difference between comedy that we see in the western hemisphere of the globe and the ones being played out in our drawing rooms. “We cannot afford to be subtle. Because it is a television show, a lot of drama has to be introduced to attract the viewer. That is why our comedy shows are loud, but Sony Sab has ensured that they are not over the top.” Now some of the shows have been running for more than a year and a half and the interest in it hasn’t waned. All the credit goes to the writing team for ensuring that the narrative doesn’t lose its pep.

“It’s a tough job to keep a daily soap rolling. And that is where we differ from the digital content that is threatening viewership. There is no difference of opinion that web series, finite ones, are a whole lot more interesting than the never ending serials. If in ten episodes, you have to package the entire storyline, it is but natural that the writing is tight, the story is gripping and the production values are much better. But when it comes to daily soaps, if the approach is casual, the show is bound to suffer. But we are happy that JCPH is a hugely popular show, and its popularity is increasing,” apprises Nikhil.

Hiba Nawab, who plays Elaichi, Nikhil’s love interest and Murari’s daughter in the show is excited because there is a whole lot happening in JCPH. “There are a lot of twists and turns lined up in the coming episodes and the show is going to go on a different tangent altogether. Expect a lot of chaos, a lot of turbulence that is bound to hook the viewers even further.” Commenting on why the character-driven comedy continues to enthrall viewers, Hiba says, “It is because its quirky, because it is humorous, because it doesn’t preach and because it makes you laugh.”

And the cherry on the cake is that it’s a clean show that the entire family can sit together and watch and revel in the light-hearted and hilarious content, throwing all worries aside. The trio were unanimous when they mouthed that acting is a tough job and it requires a lot of patience. The reward for all the hard work put in by the actors is the love and affection of the fans. “We are humbled and proud at the same time at the huge fan following of JCPH. I hope in the coming episodes also we are able to keep up these standards. Our aim is entertainment and we want to fulfill the same,” says Anup Upadhyay. Catch the charming duo of ELaichi and Pancham and the antics of Murari on-screen on Jijaji Chhat Per Hain, Monday to Friday at 9.30 pm on Sony SAB.
