US scientist lauds IGKV’s Lined Sowing Technique
   Date :31-Aug-2019

SENIOR scientist of United States of America’s Foreign Agriculture Services Dr Santosh Kumar Singh on Friday visited farmers’ field in Chhattisgarh Durg district, where Direct Lined Sowing Technique with the help of seed drill developed by Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV) was being practiced.

Dr Singh, accompanied by experts from IGKV, interacted with farmers and collected feedback about the method. Dr Singh, who is currently posted in Delhi-based American Embassy, praised lined sowing practice taken up with the help of Seed Drill developed by the university. IGKV has adopted Direct Lined Sowing Technique for planting Rabi crop. With the help of Seed Drill, planting of Rabi crop was carried out in around 1,000 acre land (of farmers) under the guidance of Krishi Vigyan Kendras. While farmers across State were facing problems due to less rainfall recorded till mid of July this year, IGKV has carried out sowing by adopting Direct Lined Sowing Technique with the help of Inclined Plate Planter. Adoption of this method helps farmers to ensure proper space between two saplings. Moreover, this technique required less seeds and fertiliser along with maximum yield.

This method results in maturation of crops around 8-10 days earlier as compare to the crop sown by using traditional process. The method developed by the university is very effective in dealing with drought-like situation and terming out to be a boon for farmers. The method applied in field of several farmers belonging to area close to Patan block and its surrounding has recorded significant results and farmers are expected to get good yield.
