Accuses Govt of imposing its political agenda in the name of temple’s development

Days after Kamal Nath Government announced to carry out comprehensive development in and around Mahakal temple of Ujjain, a delegation of BJP leaders from Ujjain, including MP Anil Firozia, former minister Paras Jain, MLA Mohan Yadav and Mayor Meena Jonwal, submitted a memorandum to Governor Lalji Tandon on Saturday. They accused State Government of imposing its political agenda in the name of development of Ujjain’s historical Mahakal temple.

BJP leaders requested Governor that all kinds of activities being run by Kamal Nath Government at the premises of Mahakal Temple should be stopped immediately. They alleged that Government is not taking the views of local representatives nor hearing them. The committee of ministers is taking such decisions which violate Smart City provisions. BJP delegation claimed that Congress government led by Kamal Nath and committee of ministers is doing such publicity that Government is going to do comprehensive development at Mahakal Temple.

However, whatever works are being carried out currently, they were either started by previous BJP government or were sanctioned by previous BJP government. The works to expand Nandi Hall, Mahakal Tunnel, exit gate, Koti Teerth Kund and Kartikey Mandap were started by previous BJP government. The present Government has no role in the works underway inside or outside temple premises. They also said that for execution of Smart City project, Smart City company headed by Collector was formed and one committee was formed to give suggestions to it.

This committee included MP, MLAs, Mayor etc. However, Congress Government and committee of ministers are ignoring the committee including elected representatives of Ujjain. When contacted, Congress leader K K Mishra told to ‘The Hitavada’ that it is unfortunate that the ideology which came to power in Centre and states by using Ram Temple issue as a political weapon is seeing the development and renovation work at Mahakal Temple with political glass. It shows its double standard. Notably, Kamal Nath government has declared mega plan of Rs 300 crore for the development in and around Mahakal Temple in order to provide various kinds of facilities to pilgrims.
