The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is tracking all the conspiracies being hatched by Congress Government ahead of Dantewada by-election and subsequent urban bodies’ elections scheduled later this year, said Amar Agarwal State Convener for Urban Bodies’ Election Committee. Agrawal while briefing media persons, said that the Congress Government has fixed certain guidelines for carrying out rationalisation of wards ahead of Urban Bodies’ Election, which is wrong and will be opposed. The Congress Government is mulling idea of conducting election through ballot paper. During the meeting a censor motion was passed against the rationalisation guidelines and a demand has been put forth for conducting elections through EVMs and not by ballot papers.

The meeting also decided to urge State Election Commission to extend the tenure for scrutiny of voter list. The BJP Urban Bodies’ Election Committee meeting was held today at Khushabhau Thakre Parisar in the presence of BJP National Vice- President Dr Raman Singh, State President Vikram Usendi, Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik, Convener Amar Agrawal, MP Santosh Pandey, MP Sunil Soni, National ST Cell President Ramvichar Netam, former Ministers Vishnudeo Sai, Prem Prakash Pandey, Ajay Chandrakar, State General Secretary (Organisation) Pawan Sai and other office-bearers.

Amar Agrawal, while briefing media persons, said that the rationalisation process carried out ahead of urban bodies’ election is wrong because it has been carried out with political intentions, which is being examined by the party. Regarding candidates, Agrawal said that reservation process is yet to take place and the process for deciding upon candidature will commence thereafter. He said that BJP will compete the urban bodies election seriously.

Meetings will be held at the district and mandal level also. During the meeting of BJP State Office-bearers which was also held alongside, deliberations were held mainly on four issues which include urban bodies’ election, organising ‘Seva Saptah’ to mark the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from September 14 to 20, BJP membership drive and subsequent organizational elections and creating public awareness on abrogation of Article 370 and 35A from Jammu and Kashmir. Also discussions were held on strategy to contest Dantewada bye-election. Earlier, Amar Agrawal while briefing about rationalisation process for urban bodies’ election said ward rationalisation is carried out on the basis of population on the basis of topographical condition. But is has been noticed that the recent rationalisation process has been carried out neither on the basis of population nor on the basis of topography. Even the topographical limit of every ward has not been fixed properly. This would result in mixing of voters from different wards with each other.
