A 16-YEAR-OLD boy suffering from acute leukemia and blood cancer died at Dr Bheem Rao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital (BRAMH) during treatment on Sunday. The parents said that if the blood had been administered on time, the life of the child could have been saved. As per information received from Shiv Kumar Netam, a resident of Dhorda village in Balod district, his son Chumanlal Netam was suffering from blood cancer and parents came to know about the disease on Saturday. The boy was admitted in a private hospital, but due to severe condition he was referred to cancer hospital. However, the parents rushed him to AIIMS Raipur, but the boy could not be admitted.

Later, parents took the boy to Balco hospital at Nava Raipur, where doctors refused to admit him due to non-presence of Emergency care unit doctor at the hospital. When the condition of the boy was getting serious, he was rushed to Dr B R Ambedkar Memorial Hospital at about 4 pm. Hospital sources informed that haemoglobin-level of the boy was 3 gram and doctors recommended blood transfusion as he was suffering from acute leukemia and blood cancer.

Two units of blood were issued immediately and doctors took him to emergency care unit. The blood could not be administered and the boy died during treatment. Hospital Superintendent Dr Vivek Choudhary while talking to ‘The Hitavada’, informed that the patient reached hospital at last stage and doctors tried hard but could not save him. If patient was brought in time, doctors would have saved him, said Choudhary.
