NMC launches Morya App for ‘visarjan’

Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has launched Morya NMC Nagpur android app to assist citizens in location of nearby tank for immersion of idols of Lord Ganpati. Informing this on Wednesday, Deputy Mayor Deepraj Pardikar and Virendra Kukreja, Chairperson, Health Committee, NMC, said the App is developed by Engineering students of city. The App was launched on eve of Ganesh Visarjan as NMC expects large number of idols to be immersed on Thursday.
 
The app can be downloaded from PlayStore or through the link http:..shorturl.at/efhm4 so that people do not have to run around locating the water tank arranged by NMC for immersion of household idols of Lord Ganesh. Kukreja said this year the Health Department has arranged for 254 artificial tanks and for Thursday 10 to 20 more locations would have the tanks in place. Similarly two mobile vans are also deployed to help citizens immerse Ganesh idols near their homes and they are moving in two Zones of city. The Start-Up company floated by the students who pursued Engineering degree from city colleges has helped NMC in developing the android app.
 
Atur Nampalliwar is lead designer of app and he was assisted by Kunal Nampalliwar, Sagar Bhagat, Yash Umathe and Aman Raghuvanshi. The aim behind developing app is to ensure effective utilisation of artificial tanks arranged by NMC for avoiding polluting the city lakes. Answering a querry, Additional Commissioner Ram Joshi said after the immersion the idols would be collected and dumped in a pit. Some locations are already finalised where the idols that are not completely dissolved would be kept. Kukreja said a rough survey of Health Department indicated a drastic fall in sale of idols made from plaster of paris (PoP) in city this year. Nearly 2.5 lakh idols are likely to immersed on Ganpati Visarjan.
 
 
NMC to hold meet to discuss height of Ganesh idols Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will convey meeting of all Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav Mandals, Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), environmentalists, public representative to discuss probability of limiting height of idols of Lord Ganesh. “With an aim to protect the environment and avoid polluting the lakes, NMC is thinking of putting restriction on heights of idols installed by mandals,” Virendra Kukreja stated during media interaction on Wednesday. The meeting would also discuss whether to charge fees from Mandals during immersion of idols, following the principle of polluter paying for cleanliness of the lake. This year immersion of big idols is allowed only at Futala Lake. For people who still believe in traditional way of immersion of idols, NMC has made arrangements at two places near Futala Lake, on either side of overflow side. “We have roped in an NGO whose volunteers will collect the idols from people and immerse them safely in lake,” stated Addl Commissioner Ram Joshi.
