Collector Pithode prohibits idol immersion by boats

Bhopal district administration has awaken from the slumber after the drowning incident of eleven youths during immersion of Ganesh idol at Khatlapura ghat of Lower Lake. It has now decided to prohibit people from immersing idols by boats. It also decided to ban the idols of more than five feet in height.
Talking to ‘The Hitavada’, District Collector Tarun Pithode said that total eleven persons have died in boat capsize at Lower Lake. One RI (Revenue Inspector) has been suspended from immediate effect in the wake of the incident. The suspended RI will also face departmental inquiry. Moreover, administration
has decided not to allow people to immerse idols by boats. He further told that idols should be small in size and should be immersed at the makeshift pond created at all identified places. “We have even ensured such arrangement at various places in city but people do not restrain themselves and goes inside lake for immersion of idols,” he said. He added that now administration has also decided to fix the height of idols. The idols should not be above five feet in height. Though he admitted that idols of Durga Maa are being already made and the makers will face problem due to the order but it is necessary to save the precious lives of people. Even during evening hours, Collector Tarun Pithode inspected various immersion sites to check the security arrangement.
