   Date :14-Sep-2019

ongoing research in development of seed varieties in Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University (JNAU) in Plant Breeding and Genetics Department under All India Chickpea (Gram) Research Project a new variety JG 24 introduced and dedicated to the country. The upgrade has been developed by agriculture scientists Dr Anita Babbar, Dr Alok Vasnikar, Dr A K Tripathi, Dr Gyanendra Singh have developed new variety for irrigable land and having facility for mechanical harvesting.
Recently, at 24th Annual Group National Meeting of All India Gram Research Project at BIRSA Agriculture University, Ranchi, Jharkhand the variety has been introduced giving exposure to variety at a national platform.
Success of JNAU scientist team have got special appreciation from Indian Council of Agriculture Research the apex body of agriculture, research, academics and extension. The variety has been notified for Central Region’s areas where irrigable land and mechanical harvesting is being done in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh.
Project Incharge and Gram Breeder Dr Anita Babbar informed that variety has various special specialities like multi-disease resistant while will have production capacity of 22 to 25 quintal hectare. As the variety produces a long plant, which is good for mechanical harvesting thus have minimum losses of grain. On the success, Vice-Chancellor Dr P K Bisen, Dean Faculty of Agriculture Science, Dr Dheerendra Khare, Registrar, Ashok Kumar Ingle, Director Research Services, Dr P K Mishra, Director Extension Services, Dr Om Gupta, Director Instructions, Dr S D Upadhyay, Dean College of Agriculture, Dr R K Sahu, Head of the Department, Dr Sharad Tiwari, IPRO, Dr Mumtaz Ahmed Khan have congratulated the team of scientists in this project and appealed them to continue quality research work.
