IN Line with Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghels commitment to provide affordable power to people in steel township, the CSPDCL/CSPTCL has initiated measures for taking over the power supply of BSP township. But the itch seems to be delay on the part of SAIL to finalise the agreement with the power company at the earliest. Only after the process of agreement with Township Electrical Engineering Department (TEED) of Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), the Chhattisgarh State Power Co. will undertake measures to take over the power supply of BSP Township, said Shailendra Shukla, Chairman, Chattisgarh State Power Companies while talking to ‘The Hitavada’.

He informed that he recently convened a meeting of officials from the power companies and TEED of BSP and directed the officials regarding the procedure of finally taking over the power supply from TEED, the licensee of Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited (CSPDCL). He informed that TEED of BSP would sign an agreement with the power co. after having sought approval from SAIL regarding handing over the power supply and for bearing a share of cost for infrastructure development. The power companies, Chairman, Shukla stated that it would be all about developing a complete set up for maintaining power supply as the power supply infrastructure in the township presently is over five decades old and it could hardly be utilised. As per the ground level survey and present power supply scenario in Durg Region of CSPDCL, it would be inevitable to set up 220/132 KV power substation along with 132/33 and required number of 33/11 KV power substations.

The total infrastructure cost is estimated to be over Rs 121 crore however BSP managment was of the view that the company will bear 50 crores as cost towards infrastructure upgradation and development after due approval from SAIL. Shukla said that as far as the matter of infrastructure cost is concerned TEED ought to bear rationally the cost for infrastructure development for installation of 11 KV lines to setting up 132/33 KV power substation.

The present power supply infrastructure in BSP Township is more or less outdated and needs a thorough streamlining. BSP has pressed into services high powered transformers of 1500 to 1700 KVA, which is generally used for running machines in the plant unlike the power co which uses 25 to 500 KVA transformers for effectively curbing low voltage complaints and for providing better consumer services. He informed that after agreement with the licensee the management of power companies would take up the matter with State government regarding the remaining cost for infrastructure to be developed in BSP Township. The process of taking over the power supply would be undertaken after finalizing modalities of sharing of infrastructural cost.
