“Hamid Dalwai was a true human being, secularist and amazing author. He led his life till last breath for protection and preservation of human values. Dalwai was a real thinker par excellence. His thoughts and principles were far ahead of time. This is the reason, I wanted to promote Dalwai’s thoughts among youths,” said renowned theatre actress Jyoti Subhash on Sunday. Subhash was interacting with Ajey Gampawar in an open interview at Vanamati Hall.

“I started knowing Hamid Dalwai though his literature. I read all his books written in Marathi. He was multifaceted, multitalented and a powerful person who dared to stand against all superstitions, misconceptions and orthodox principles of Muslim religion. Many personalities like Pu La Deshpande, Bhau Padhye, Dilip Chitre, Bhai Vaidya, S M Joshi and others had admired the strength of Dalwai. I was inspired by his mesmerising and magnetic personality, I have decided to take his image as a true secularist to people through the documentary ‘Hameed Dalwai-The Unsung Humanist,” stated Jyoti Subhash. Supreme Court of India recently in its verdict directed to abolish the practice of instant triple talaq in Muslim community. Hameed Dalwai was the first Muslim reformer who had protested against triple talaq about 50 years ago. Jyoti Subhash has produced documentary on life of Hameed Dalwai.
