Sensation gripped Raipur’s posh Shankar Nagar locality under Civil Lines police station on Tuesday noon after an ex-armyman fired a gunshot targeting a 4-wheeler parked on road. “An ex-armyman identified as Arun Bajpai (72), a resident of Shankar Nagar locality, fired a gunshot on four-wheeler (CG 04 LB 5837) of his neighbour Hemant Golcha (48) this afternoon. Police have arrested Bajpai and seized his licensed .12 bore rifle,” Civil Lines Station House Officer (SHO) Sushanto Banerjee told The Hitavada.

Shedding more information about the crime, Civil Lines SHO said that infuriated by the dispute erupted over parking of vehicle on road, Bajpai fired a gunshot damaging Golcha’s vehicle. During morning hour, heated argument took place between Bajpai and Golcha after the latter parked his four-wheeler on road following which the former fired a gunshot. After hearing the sound of gunshot, people in the locality came out of their house and spotted Bajpai heading towards his house along with rifle.

The gunshot damaged the rear windshield of Golcha’s car following which a complaint was lodged, added SHO Banerjee. “As the news of gunshot was received, police rushed to the spot and arrested Bajpai along with his licensed firearm,” informed the SHO. An offence in this connection was registered against the accused under Section 427 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), which amounts to the charge of mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees, and under relevant section of Arms Act, said the SHO, adding that Bajpai was produced in a local court from where he was released on bail.
