2 vehicles carrying country liquor worth Rs 8.5 lakh seized on State highway

FOLLOWING directives issued by SP Amit Singh to tighten noose around miscreants involved in sale and supply of liquor and sedatives. Cops from Patan police station intercepted two vehicles on the State Highway and seized 216 crates containing 10,750 quarters of country liquor worth around Rs 8.5 lakh. Two vehicles including a pick-up van (MP 20 GB 1858) and another Maruti Swift were carrying crates of country liquor. According to SHO Patan Shivraj Singh, on the intervening night of Wednesday-Thursday an informer informed about two vehicles carrying a huge consignment of country liquor.
 
The liquor consignment was loaded from Damoh and was to be unloaded in Jabalpur. Acting on the information, a team was constituted who took position on the State Highway at Katangi Tiraha. A pick-up van and a car were heading towards Jabalpur. Drivers of the both the vehicles on seeing police from a distance stopped the vehicles near village Udhna abandoned both the vehicles and fled from the spot. Cops rushed to the spot at village and found two vehicles on the road. During checking, cops were shocked to find huge consignment of liquor being transported in the vehicles.
 
Cops found 216 crates containing 10,750 quarters of country liquor. Both the vehicles have been seized by police and on the basis of registration number it is held that the vehicle was registered with Jabalpur RTO. The pick-up van is owned by Taj Mohammad, a resident from Indranagar, while the car is owned by Rahul Patel, a resident from Baldeobag Sheetalpuri, Jabalpur. Sources informed that the liquor consignment was being brought from Damoh to Jabalpur was of liquor contractor Rahul Patel.
 
While SHO Patan said we have started investigations as efforts are on to ascertain the owner of two vehicles found illegally transporting liquor consignment. We have registered ac ase under relevant sections against the miscreants who abandoned the vehicles. Stock of liquor seized from two vehicles is worth Rs 8.5 lakh. A massive search has been started to apprehend the two drivers and owner of the liquor consignment.
