Dengue cases on rise, patients rush to hospital

The outbreak of dengue is increasing in city these days and hospitals are flooded with vector-borne cases. This can be gauged from the fact that till date 155 dengue patients have been detected. The number of dengue patients in the city has increased to 265. In view of the increasing impact of dengue, the Malaria Department has now started an intensive investigation campaign. Around 124 teams investigated a dengue larva survey in the Berkheda Pathani area. In last two days, larvae have been found in 1,087 homes. Till date around 16,512 houses have been detected with larvae. In 734 utensils dengue larvae was found on Thursday and survey as conducted over 6,762 homes.
 
Around 43 teams have been found by Malaria Department and 85 teams include team from Bhopal Municipal Corporation (Health Department) and officials from Health Department. Bhopal Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr Sudhir Dehariya talking to ‘The Hitavada’ said that alert has not been sounded in the city and Health Department has issued precautionary measures to curb dengue cases in city. A little awareness can make a lot difference, he added. Health Department is continuously monitoring the situations. District Malaria Officer (DMO) Dr Akhilesh Dubey said that survey is being conducted regularly by the department.
 
The patients who have been identified as positive are being treated at different hospitals. The samples are being sent to Gandhi medical college and AIIMS for dengue test regularly. The teams have detected mosquito larva, responsible for vector-borne diseases like dengue, malaria in many localities. Accumulated water in coolers, earthen vessels, fountains and pits are providing perfect place for the mosquitoes to thrive. There are many breeding pockets of mosquitoes in areas including in Govindpura, Saket Nagar, Kolar road, Arera Colony. Malaria Department jointly with Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) have constituted teams and conducting door-to-door survey in different zones of the city to check the outbreak of dengue, malaria. It has been observed that the areas where denizens keep their water stored are more prone for mosquito bites. Larvae was even detected in many areas including Hoshangabd road, Saket Nagar, Shakti Nagar, 45-Bungalow, Char Imli, Arera Colony and other posh colonies.
 
The teams are also counselling the residents on ways to check spread of diseases. The awareness is also given to people to ensure that the breeding places of mosquitoes inside their houses and their vicinity needs to be destroyed. The BMC squad while taking the action is also spraying pesticides through fogging machines at the respective areas and at homes as well. On Thursday, awareness programme and inspection was organised at Saket Nagar zone number 6, Shakti Nagar, AIIMS Girls Hostel, and Gambusia fish released in stagnant water ponds in the locality.
