CARING HAND
   Date :21-Sep-2019

IN A systematic and well-thought manner, the Central Government is introducing various confidence building measures in Jammu and Kashmir with an aim to bring local administration and normal life back on track. Following the stripping of its special status after abrogation of Article 370, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is slowly warming up to the new Central laws to be applicable in general administration. The Centre has already announced opening of 50 colleges and filling of 50,000 vacancies in Government jobs. Even as it is being done, it is now mulling an insurance cover of Rs. 4 lakh each to 40,000 panch and sarpanch in the region considering their vulnerability to terror threats. The Panchayati Raj acts as a vital cog in carrying out transparent democracy in hinterland of the country. The decision to provide insurance cover to panch and sarpanch comes as a welcome step in ensuring a caring hand to the local administrators who have a big responsibility of taking Centre’s welfare schemes to the populace. More such steps will ensure a true sense of compassion and belonging in the locals.
