AI BOOST FOR ARMY
   Date :28-Sep-2019

IT WAS just a matter of time for the Indian Army to go for Artificial Intelligence (AI) to boost its combat and constructive capabilities. The assertion by South Western Command’s Chief Lt Gen Alok Singh Kler that AI would be introduced in the Indian Army’s mechanised forces is a logical step in the same direction. The changing form of battleground from field to digital platform has made it imperative for armed forces to adopt technology in its combat operations. While China and the United States have been on the forefront in adopting technology for their forces with extensive thrust on becoming network-centric armies, India has been a bit slow in taking off. AI has a potential to change the entire gamut of warfare, especially in the regions infested by infiltrators and non-state elements. Advancement in technology will only give more teeth to the Indian forces with lesser risk to their ground personnel. Domain experts have spelt out ways to use AI in constructive as well as disruptive usage. Present security circumstances call for speedy implementation of these ideas.
