Dhanpuri More than 10,000 people in the coal producing area are forced to consume unclean water as the water filter plant in Sohagpur area is out of order. In the present spell of rainy season, people have become vulnerable to water borne diseases. Reportedly the bleaching chemical used at the filter plant has been exhausted and employees of the plant are forced to supply unclean water to citizens. The fact that the water filter plant is unable to cater to the needs of poeple has made no difference for the plant management and no efforts are being initiated to obtain the much needed chemical to clean the water making it potable. People residing at Railway Colony, Amaradandi, Cheephouse Dhanpuri number 3, Hospital Colony, areas where mostly mine workers reside, are compelled to consumer unsafe water.

The water supplied in name of potable water is considered unsafe for drinking purpose as it is visibly unclean. The cause behind supply of non-potable water from the water filter plant is that the bleaching chemical required to purify the water has been exhausted a couple months ago. The dearth of chemical to purify the water has forced people to obtain water from city municipality public tap connections.

Families of mine workers have to spend much time of the day trying to get water from Dhanpuri municipality tap connections. Amidst growing exasperation, colony residents have raised the issue before senior officers from SECL Sohagpur area. All attempts to get the problem rectified have proved in vain and till date, people are forced to consume unclean water and depending on time schedule of city municipality tap, rush to obtain water. None of the top brass of SECL Sohagpur has found it obligatory to visit the colony to take stock of the situation arising out of unclean water being supplied from water filter plant.
