Blames Congress for fiasco n Police battle amidst huge crowd of workers

BILASPUR In a major political drama, Amit Jogi, son of former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi was arrested by the Police from his official residence ‘Marwahi Sadan’ on Tuesday morning. He was arrested after senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sameera Paikra filed a complaint against him on mentioning wrong place of birth in the nomination papers while contesting assembly polls. Amidst huge gathering of party workers, Police had to battle it out to arrest junior Jogi and escorted him to Pendra Police Station. While Jogi and his loyals blamed the Congress Government in State of doing revenge politics, the Congress said that Police was doing their job.

The ADJ Court in Pendra rejected the bail application of Amit Jogi and sent him to 15-days judicial custody. Being a lawyer Amit Jogi argued his own case after seeking permission from the court. While being taken to jail, Jogi said that he would now apply in the Session Court and High Court for hearing his case. Earlier when Jogi was presented before the ADJ, he sought permission to argue his own case which was accepted by the court.

The court while hearing his bail plea, rejected his appeal and sent him to 15-days judicial custody. Speaking to media persons after coming out of the court Amit Jogi said that State Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel was playing ‘Badlapur’ politics and he will soon file a case against contempt of court with the High Court of Chhattisgarh. He said that he would now apply in the Session Court and High Court for hearing his case. It may be noted that in 2013 Sameera Paikra had filed a complaint with Pendra Police Station against Amit Jogi for mentioning wrong birth place and citizenship in his declaration while filing his nomination from Marwahi seat. Since then she has been demanding arrest of junior Jogi but no action was taken by the sleuths.

Later Amit Jogi filed a suit with the High Court of Chhattisgarh. On Monday Paikra and other party leaders staged a massive demonstration near Pendra Police Station demanding arrest of junior Jogi. On Tuesday morning a posse of senior Police officials including Additional Superintendents of Police Om Prakash Sharma and Sanjay Dhruv reached ‘Marwahi Sadan’ and arrested Amit Jogi. During this period, large number of party leaders and loyalists of Jogi family also reached there and made every effort to resist and foil the arrest. Police also had to use mild force to disperse the mob to arrest Amit Jogi. Superintendent of Police Prashant Agrawal said that a case against Amit Jogi was registered in Pendra Police Station under section 420 of IPC.

He said that acting on the complaint, Police arrested him. Additional Police Superintendent Sanjay Dhruv said that a complaint was registered against Amit Jogi by Pendra Police under section 420, 465, 466 and 468 of Indian Penal Code for mentioning wrong place of birth in his nomination papers. In his reaction, Ajit Jogi said that there is a complete collapse of law and order in state as Congress Government is doing revenge politics. He said that the arrest of his son was a political vendetta. Already the High Court has pronounced its judgement and the arrest now is contempt of High Court. Congress State General Secretary Atal Shrivastava said that there was no politics in arrest. Police was doing its job.

Raipur Police on Tuesday foiled the bid to burn effigy of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel by workers of Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (J) against the backdrop of arrest of former Chhattisgarh CM Ajit Jogi’s son and State President of JCC(J) Amit Jogi. To protest the arrest of former Amit Jogi, JCC(J) workers staged an agitation at ‘Dharna Sthal’ in limits of Purani Basti police station and also made a futile attempt to burn the effigy of Bhupesh Baghel, said Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Prafull Kumar Thakur. “Elaborate security arrangements were made to avert any untoward incident during the agitation. Police personnel deployed at ‘Dharna Sthal’ prevented burning of CM’s effigy. As a preventive measure, security arrangements at CM House as well as Governor House have been heightened with deployment of additional security personnel,” stated the ASP. According to police sources, over 30 security personnel, including personnel from Police Lines, along with patrolling staff were deployed at the ‘Dharna Sthal’ as an exercise to maintain law and order during the protest. None of the party worker was arrested during the protest. It may be recalled that police arrested Amit Jogi on Tuesday in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh on charges of cheating and forgery. Following the complaint lodged by Sameera Paikra, the BJP candidate from Marwahi constituency in the 2013 state Assembly polls, police arrested the state president of JCC(J). Paikra in her complaint said Amit Jogi allegedly submitted wrong information about his birth place in the affidavit while filing his nomination papers for the 2013 state polls.
