Dam gates opened as rain showers continue

On Tuesday Sluice Gate number 2,5 and 6 of Bhadbhada dam were opened. One gate of Kaliyasot Dam was also opened subsequent to opening of Bhadbhada gates . Sluice gates of Kaliyasot Dam are usually opened when water flow rises in Upper Lake since reservoir gets water from Upper Lake and also from other resources. BMC is ensuring strict monitoring of situation here. BhadBhada Dam is asset of 11 sluice gates at south east corner of Upper Lake in Bhopal.
 
The gates are used to control the outflow of water from the lake to Kaliyasot river and is opened when Upper Lake reaches FTL mark of 1666.80ft. As excess rainfall was witnessed this year in total for eight times the Bhadbhada gates were opened .In total approximate 1500 Million Cubic feet water has been released so far. Rakesh Nigam assistant engineer (water works) from Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that the gates were opened early in morning since rains were continuous. Subsequent to which heavy to very heavy rainfall at Sehore district resulted in rise in water level in the kolans river later .The gates of Kaliyasot dam reached its FRL (full Reservoir Level) of 505.67m.
 
The senior officials of Bhopal Municipal Corporation and MPWRD are in constant communication and water level in the reservoirs is being monitored. Two hours prior to the opening of gates alertness was given to the localities. Besides district administration officials and police officials were also informed in advance so as to ensure no public movement in water flow route. This is for the 13th time the gates of Bhadbhada is being opened this year.
