Health of Van Vihar’s oldest tigress not good

VAN Vihar National Park authorities on Wednesday announced that health of oldest tigress ‘Priya’ is declining due to old age. The tigress has completed normal life of 21 years. Though the feline is being given complete treatment continuously but she is not responding to the treatment due to old age. The tigress was brought to Van Vihar in 2006 at the age of 7 years from Jaipur after being rescued from a circus. The tigress is 21 years and has completed a normal life of a big cat.
 
‘Priya’ suffered a wound on her lower jaw on August 30. The park management is treating her continuously. Park officials said that the tigress was weak since starting and her hind legs were quite weak. In 2008 the tigress suffered from trypanosomiasis and in 2009 she suffered from pyometra diseases. However, tigress was treated well by the park team. She is the oldest tigress of Van Vihar. Dr Ashok Jain, Deputy Director at Van Vihar National Park said, “Veterinary doctors are monitoring the tigress 24X7 through cameras. Proper diet is being given to her but she has refused to take food for few days.” He further said, though her chances of surviving are low, the team is doing their best.
