In a benevolent effort, a computer teacher by profession has been donating 30 per cent of her monthly salary to serve physically challenged young boys and girls who are forced to quit their study in the midst because of financial crisis. Geetu Joshi, who is working as a computer teacher at Seva Niketan Rehabilitation cum Training Centre at Sherikheri in Raipur, has, so far, claimed to have helped over 300 physically challenged students complete their high school/higher secondary school/degree education. When asked about her motivation, Geetu said that she herself belongs to a family which had struggled for both ends for many years.

“My father works as a manager in a poultry farm and hardly manages to earn Rs 10,000-Rs 12,000 per month. We are seven sisters and our elder sister is married. I had to struggle a lot to complete my MSc degree from Pt Ravishankar Shukla University. I had to discontinue my study for one year due to financial crisis. Later, I did PGDCA and BEd. The struggling life I have lived gave me strength to help needy,” said Geetu while talking to this newspaper.

At Seva Niketan, physically challenged school dropouts are given admission for free computer education. But computer education without Class 10, 12 and degree certificates is of no use. “Therefore, I decided to help such students, who have quit their study after 8th, 9th complete their 10th, 12th and graduation. I am fortunate enough to help 320 such students in completing their 10th, 12 examinations,” said Geetu. “Some of our students are preparing themselves for railways, assistant grade and Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission Examination. I would like to serve such students forever even as I have many liability towards my family especially my sisters. My other staff in the Seva Niketan are extending support in my mission by teaching the students different subjects,” said Geetu.
