City cops all set with bandobast for Prime Minister’s visit on 7th

“During the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to city on Saturday, vehicular traffic would be diverted at 22 places. The traffic movement during the visit of Prime Minister at Subhash Nagar Metro and later at Sitabuldi Inter-change station will be stopped from security point of view,” said Deputy Inspector General of Police (North Region) (DIG) Shashikant Mahavarkar during an interaction with mediapersons on Thursday. The DIG also said, “During the PM’s visit to Sitabuldi, parking of vehicles on the road near metro station will be banned.
 
For parking of vehicles elaborate arrangements are made inside the mall, Glocal Square. Similarly, movement of traffic to Munje Square from all directions would be stopped. Advisory has been issued for citizens to take diverted route to avoid inconvenience.” On the arrangement at the venue of the Prime Minister’s programme at Mankapur Indoor Stadium, Mahavarkar said, “Elaborate security arrangements would be in place and hence police advised citizens to take their seats an hour before scheduled start of the events. The stadium had a seating capacity for 5,000 persons. Extra arrangements would be made outside with live telecast of the programme.
 
The additional seating arrangements would facilitate 15,000 people.” The DIG also said, “Double frisking would be done at the programme venue of every visitor, more so of those who are entering the stadium. Separate coloured passes are issued for each of the categories. The invitees to the stadium need to use the gate earmarked on the invitation. Only mobile phones are allowed at the venue and people should not bring bags, eatables bottles and laptops.” To ensure smooth conduct of Prime Minister’s visit and public programme, additional deployment of about 2,400 cops, including senior officers, is be made. For managing traffic and avoid jams and snarls during the diversion alone, two Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) are drafted for the purpose.
 
They would be assisted by seven Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), 15 Police Inspectors and 800 constabulary staff. “The overall bandobast includes 11 DCPs, 23 ACPs, 80 PIs, 200 APIs/PSIs and 2,100 constabulary staff. The police force will be assisted by one company of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF),” added DIG Mahavarkar. DCP, Traffic Control Branch, Chinmay Pandit said, “The road blockade and diversion for road traffic at Subhash Nagar and Sitabuldi would be for very limited period. Once Prime Minister moves onto from Subhash Nagar to Sitabuldi Inter-change and from there to Mankapur Stadium, the restrictions would be lifted.”
 
The places from where traffic would be diversion are -- Mangalmurti Square in Sonegaon Circle for vehicles coming from Jaitala and Hingna onto Trimurty Nagar and Sambhaji Square, Hingna T-point-traffic from Hingna onto Mangalmurti Square, Anand Talkies Square in Sitabuldi Circle-the traffic would be diverted to Dhantoli railway underbridge, Mata Mandir cutting (Yeshwant Stadium)-onto Mehadia Square and ahead, at Panchasheel Square-road ahead till Jhansi Rani will remain closed and traffic would be routed through University Library Square. Similarly, traffic diversion would also be in place from Maharajbagh Square, Hindustan Bar cutting, Jhansi Rani Square, Variety Square, Netaji Market, Temple Bazar Lane, Shree Mohini Complex Lane, LIC Square, Faras Gate, Mankapur Square, Pagalkhana Square, Poonam Chamber Square, Itarsi Bridge T-point, CID Office and Bijli Nagar NMC School (near Raj Bhawan). Senior Police officers including DCP Zone-II Vinita Sahu, DCP Shewta Khedkar (holding official charge of Special Branch), Police Inspector, Traffic Control Branch, South Region, Jayesh Bhandarkar, officials of Maha Metro including A V Giri, retired DCP, and others also were present during the media interaction. “During his visit, the Prime Minister will launch five programme through remote at Mankapur stadium. The visit of Prime Minister to city would be of two and half hours. Modi will arrive at 4 pm and departure at 6.30 pm,” said the police officials. DIG Mahavarkar added that city police were entrusted with the task of outside ring of security while Special Protection Group (SPG) mans the inner ring in proximity of Prime Minister. SPG advance team that is in city is likely to conduct trials on Thursday and Friday.
