A special team of Raipur Police apprehended two men on the charges of robbing two petrol pumps at gun-point at Dharsiwa and Bemetara. Police brought the accused men to Raipur after arresting them from Pratapgarh of Uttar Pradesh (UP) on Thursday. In a press conference on Thursday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shaikh Arif Husen told the mediapersons that on the directions of Deputy Inspector General of Police, he had constituted the special team to probe two incidents of petrol pump robbery. The first incident happened at Guru Fuels at Charoda Dharsiwa, where two masked men robbed Rs 40,000 from the cashier Leeladhar Sahu (43) and three pump employees Santosh Khunte, Komal Verma and Amar Sinha on the intervening night of August 28 and 29.

Police had registered a case under Section 392 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the complaint of Leeladhar Sahu. They robbed second fuel station Ambika Petrol Pump at village Kobia of Bemetara. Here, they even shot at one of the petrol pump employees Lalit Rajak, when he tried to prevent them from entering the office. Bemetara Police registered a FIR under Section 307, 460, and 344 of Indian Penal Code and Section 25 and 27 of Arms Act. Modus operandi at both the petrol pumps was the same, two-masked men on a motorbike with a crude country-made handgun robbing by threatening the employees.

The Police team analysed every aspect of the incidents and went through the CCTV footages. Current employees at the petrol pumps were kept under scanner even as the former employees, who recently left the job, were brought under vigilance. While probing the aspect of involvement of inter-state gang, police came across the clue which led to the Pratapgarh of UP. After nearly a week of camping in Pratapgarh, police finally rounded up two accused named Mohammad Osama and Mohammad Farukh. In the inquisition, they confessed on committing the crimes along with a third man named Ajit Gautam, who hasn’t been yet arrested. Police recovered a country-made pistol, three rounds and 2 mobile phones along with the super splendor motorbike used in the crime from them.
