Even as the humidity levels remained high, heavy sporadic rains lashed several parts of Bhilai on Saturday that led to water-logging problems in several areas in city. Sporadic downpour that continued to drench Steel City and its adjacent areas from last couple of days has left Steel City water-logged and low-lying areas inundated with rain water and also affected normal life.

Children returning from schools and their parents had to brave the rain and chilly weather. While, daily wage earners, petty vendors, and those involved in outdoor work like marketing executives had a tough time. In many localities, the office goers and schoolchildren had to wade through knee-deep water to reach their destinations. The city witnessed mild showers for an hour in the morning hours before heavy sporadic rainfall took over in the afternoon and evening hours.

The inclement weather resulted in power cuts in many areas and led to water-logging across the city causing immense inconvenience to commuters. The low lying areas on the periphery as well as quite a few residential colonies and commercial centres in township areas remained submerged and water receded only after the rain stopped.

With the rain water inundating on many roads, streets and intersections, vehicular traffic was disrupted and people, including students, were forced to remain indoors. Many houses in the low-lying areas were flooded and people were seen draining out the rainwater manually. Meanwhile, the Met department has predicted that the weather will remain same for the next two day with possibilities of moderate and heavy downpour in several parts across state. The Meteorological Department said that the maximum temperature hovered around 27 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was 24 degrees Celsius.
