The gala event held at New Circuit House was well attended and graced by people from all walks of life. At the outset, Raipur Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Anand Chhabra was the Chief guest.

The ceremony began with a stage play presented by a group of students from Bharat Mata School, Bilaspur, who came all the way long to Raipur to enact the play purely aimed at propagating the idea of helmet’s pivotal and paramount role in saving precious lives lost in road fatalities. The act saw some students playing role of errant motorists to recreate drunken and rash driving situation and another person donned the role of ‘Yamraj’ (God of death) to explain how these motorists sans helmets arrived to the gates of hell. The Yamraj in token of thanks to Raipur Police appreciated their initiative for their Har Head Helment campaign, its widespread acceptance among the masses and thereby saving so many precious lives, particularly those of youngsters.

The play got a huge round of applause from the august gathering. Then, a group a students and teachers from Kamla Devi Sangeet Mahavidyala presented a song titled ‘Helmet Helmet’, which equally won great appreciation from one and all. The lyrics of the song as well its composition has been done by Raipur DSP (Traffic) Satish Thakur. Later, the senior officials of Raipur Police accorded warm floral reception to all for stakeholders, media and participants for their support and role in the campaign wherein thousands of people took oath to wear the safety headgear while driving two-wheelers. So much so that the campaign received such an overwhelming response, which later led to the conferment of the ‘Golden Book of World Records’ was the impressive statistics of Raipur Police to have distributed 15,223 helmets on August 15, the day which marked country’s 73rd Independence Day celebrations.

Moreover, the day and campaign also fatefully coincided with the festival of ‘Raksha Bandhan’ wherein 10,000 siblings shared their photographs of gifting helmet to each other and later posting it on all major social media platforms. Later while addressing the gathering, Raipur Range IG Anand Chhabra, who is also a doctor, recalled his days an intern at Neuro Surgery Ward in Amritsar in late 1990’s where he used to witness maximum cases of fatal head injuries caused in freak road mishaps and most of the victims didn’t wear helmet. The IG thus cautioned the motorists that a self-drive decision and awareness to wear helmet will not only save lives, but also avert the chances of very costly head injuries caused often in such road fatalities.

He also showered heap of accolades for Raipur SSP Shaikh Arif Husen and rest of his team for their tremendous effort and tiresome pain for mobilising such a massive public awareness campaign on helmet. Hereafter, the felicitation ceremony began during which ‘The Hitavada’ was foremost remembered and mention along with other media houses and journalists for which they were presented a memento. The other stakeholders and participants of the campaign were also presented mementoes and citations, with a special mention of thanks to Manoj Kumar Agrawal, President of Nirman Education, Yoga and Sports Institution.
