“Kerala, known as God’s Own Country, may now be described as ‘devil’s land’, thanks to the machinations by anti-national elements in the garb of religious fundamentalists and pseudo-intellectuals. In view of this, it would in the best interest of the nation that the Central Government took some steps akin to the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir so that Kerala is not devastated in near future,” said noted Malayali film-lyricist, screen-writer and director Ali Akbar on Sunday.

Talking to ‘The Hitavada’, Ali Akbar, who was in city to attend ‘Malayali Hindu Sanghamam, Onam Celebration 2019’ as chief guest, questioned the integrity, patriotism and nationality of the so-called intellectuals preaching and spreading anti-India thoughts.

There is a dark danger lurking in the distance that the nation may lose Kerala. That makes it necessary for the Government to take some Kashmir-like steps immediately, Ali Akbar warned with pain on his face.

Expressing concern over the response of some Muslim, Christian, and Leftist elements in Kerala after ‘Chandrayaan-2’ episode, Ali Akbar said, “It was very painful to watch their reactions like bursting of crackers, as if joining Pakistani propaganda to spread hatred against Indian scientists and as if celebrating the failure. Kerala’s condition could be compared with that of Kashmir. The anti-nationals and terrorist groups have been working in Kerala and spewing venom against Narendra Modi and his nationalistic policies. We the liberal Muslims in Kerala are really living on a heap of bombs. I appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to look into the situation in Kerala and take immediate steps of rectification.”

Ali Akbar had directed more than 20 Malayalam movies, including ‘Junior Mandrake’, ‘Kudumba Vaarthakal’ and ‘Pai Brothers’. He also contested in Kozhikkode corporation for BJP. Stating that Hinduism is not a religion but is a way of life, Ali Akbar spoke about his transformation. He said, “Hinduism is based on principles of Karma. There are number of inevitable events that are bound to happen in our lives. Wishes, thoughts, choices from past life becomes the guiding light for this life.”

“I always used to think about my transformation,” stated Ali and Akbar recalled, “How have I become the person I am today? Born into a regular Muslim family, grew up learning the Holy Quran, believed only in Allah and His heaven and hell. But, somewhere, along the way without even realising the idea of mother, Umma - that’s how, in my community we call ‘mother’ Umma became Amma to me. Sanathana Dharma was growing within me. It was not intentional, it just happened, completely unexpected. I was an atheist at one point of my life, I used to even despise our Rama. How could human be a God? Isn’t he a mere human being? Living Gods are impostors who are trying to make a fool out of people using cheap magic tricks, I thought. As an answer to all these, something had to happen in my life. There was this phase, there wasn’t much work, I had a whole lot of time for myself. A friend of mine told me, there is this person who is teaching Gita for free daily from 7 am to 8 am. I also thought, why not! Anyway am not doing anything. I started going to the Gita classes. I realised, one by one each chapter was giving me answers to the questions that have been troubling me for long.”

Ali Akbar became a staunch follower of Lord Krishna. He also joined Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and started Shakhas of RSS in Kerala. “Who am I? Where did I come from? Why am I here? Where am I going? I never learned or by-hearted Slokas word by word. I just tried to understand them. The Holy book, I grew up with was basically scolding or warnings from God. If you don’t live this way, you shall be punished. One should pray this way, One should do charity this way, One must fast this way- these were what I learned. All these were there in Gita too but in a much more liberal perspective. It was through Gita I started seeing the real India/Bharat its knowledge and its sciences. Be honest, my further investigations were about that. Let’s come back to, I already mentioned, I didn’t believe Rama nor any other human God and have always questioned how a mere human be God? The answer to that also came to me from GITA. What learned from GITA is the philosophy of Advaita. The energy behind each and every living being is the same holy spirit, that is God is in every living thing or everything living is a part of God,” said Ali Akbar.
