The coulds hovering over the region welcomed the New Year with showers and thick fog besides severe cold wave marred the celebrations of many people. The spine-chilling cold made the routine life disturbed while the sun remained covered by clouds through out the day. Thick fog, cloudy weather badly affected the visibility. The trains and heavy vehicles were being run slowly due to bad visibility. The snow fall occurred in Himalayan region and north eastern wind blowing with speed of 2 km per hour has led to dipping of mercury. However, the minimum temperature was 6.2 degrees Celsius on previous day has increased to an extent due to cloudy weather.
 
The minimum temperature recorded on Tuesday was 8.6 degrees Celsius which was one degree below the normal. Whereas the minimum temperature recorded on the same day in previous year was 4.4 degrees Celsius. Likewise, the maximum temperature also remained 5 degrees below normal on Tuesday, the maximum temperature recorded on Tuesday was 18.5 degree Celsius. Maximum temperature recorded on Tuesday was 23 degree Celsius. As the western disturbance has become active in northern India, cutting of lower level wind due to blowing of northern eastern winds has brought clouds in the region due which rainfall occurred. The rainfall is likely to occur in next three days. Cloudy weather has increased relative humidity in atmosphere.
 
Relative humidity recorded in the morning was 85 per cent which was reduced to 74 per cent in the evening. However, rainfall occurred after 6.30 am suddenly changed the weather. Rainfall occurred in winter called ‘Mawatha’ in local language might prove to be boon for the peasants as the standing Rabi corps would get benefited by it. At the same time, chances of further dipping mercury in increasing after the clouds disappear from sky. On other hand severe cold weather has also increased the chaces of hailstorm with rainfall. Apart from it even if the clouds disappear, the regular dipping of mercury might cause frost which leads to withering of crops. According to weather forecast rain and thunder showers would occur in isolated areas of division in next 24 hours
