To improve the security infrastructure, Railway Board has approved a proposal to spend 0.25 per cent of the budget under Security Head. The decision stands to benefit the force as development work of outposts can be speeded-up, he added, revealed Arun Kumar, Director General, Indian Railway Protection Force Service (IRPFS) during media interaction at Central Railway’s Nagpur Division, on Thursday. He was in city as per of his country-wide tour to inspect RPF units. Already Railways have modernised the barracks of IRPFS, the new nomenclature in place of earlier RPF, apart from empowering the force with the latest gadgets. Now decisions are taken to locate all IRPFS pots on platform no. 1 and accordingly the assets would be created for the force.
 
Arun Kumar informed that to motivate the force while granting functional upgradation the constable would get one ribbon. For first 10 years one ribbon and for second 10 years along with upgradation the constabulary would entitled for second ribbon. This is being done as promotion from constable to Head Constable requires 25 years of service. The move, he said, would boost the morale of the force. Listing the achievement of RPF during last year, the DG said their role in curbing pilferage of coal and petroleum products have been appreciated by Central Vigilance Commission (CVC). Through satellite monitoring IRPFS managed to detect the spot where thefts used to occur and thereafter the detention of trains were changed.
 
Raids against touts engaged in cornering travel tickets continues and as to cyber cell he said in first phase they were opened at Zonallevel now soon at divisional-level also they are planned. Nagpur city has two zones, so its ideal place for location of cyber cell, DG IRPFS further said. Through the raids nearly 21,000 Ids were cancelled and 7.27 lakh tickets worth Rs 42 crore got seized. While all the HelpLines of Railways were merged, security helpline 182 remains active. Another major decision taken by Railway Board is to treat material transported in leased coaches as railway property thereby enabling IRPFS to take action against cases of pilferage and thefts.
 
Last year RPF managed to save 495 lives and in one case one of its jawan lost his life while saving three persons from coming under the train, the DF informed. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Central Railway, Nagpur Division, Somesh Kumar, and DRM, South East Central Railway, Nagpur Division, Shobhana Bandopadhyay, Sr. Divisional Commercial Manager (Sr. DCM) Krishnath Patil along with Sr. Divisional Security Commandant Bhawani Shankar Nath and Divisional Security Commandant Ashutosh Pandey were also present during media interaction.
 
 
‘Induction of 4,500 women officers ups strength by 10%’ POST-INDUCTION of 4,500 women officers and constables their strength in Indian Railway Protection Force Service (IRPFS) would rise to 10 per cent of the force. A proud moment for IRPFS is that among all the Central Paramilitary Forces (CPFs), women’s participation will be maximum in IRPFS, said DG Arun Kumar with pride. He also said that after a long gap 12,000 posts were filled in IRPSF thereby bolstering the filed strength. “Currently, they are all undergoing training and would join the duties soon. The transfer policy for IRPSF is also finalised wherein for officers now there would be three years tenure and for constabulary 10 years and not more than 15 years at one place,” he added.
 
Civil Liability Claim to be invoked to recover damages by protesters: DG IRPFS FOR first time, Indian Railway Protection Force Service (IRPSF) is going to invoke Civil Liability Claim to recover damages done to railway property during protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizenship (NRC), said DG Arun Kumar while replying to a querry during press conference held on Thursday. The force is scanning the CCTV and through it the rioters would be identified and chargesheet is going to be submitted in court. Total losses suffered by railways is to tune of Rs 88 crore and 54 cases were registered by IRPFS, 27 by GRP and one by local police. Maximum cases were registered in Eastern Railway, South Eastern Railway and North Frontier Railway Zones.
