After a long wait, finally, ‘Khau Galli’ project became a reality on Thursday. Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways and MSMEs, inaugurated the ‘Orange City Food Plaza’ (popularly called ’Khau Galli’) on Thursday evening. A food connoisseur himself, Gadkari also tasted some of the recipes at various stalls. Gadkari cut the ribbon to formally inaugurate ‘Khau Galli’. Sandip Joshi, Mayor; Manisha Kothe, Deputy Mayor; Pradeep Pohane, Chairman of Standing Committee of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC); Sandeep Jadhav, Ruling Party Leader; Vikas Kumbhare, MLA; Chandrashekhar Bawankule, former Guardian Minister of district; Pravin Datke, former Mayor; Dayashankar Tiwari, Sudhir alias Bandu Raut were present prominently on the occasion. Soon after inaugurating the project, Gadkari took a round of various stalls in ‘Khau Galli’. At a stall, he tasted ‘Sambar Wadi’.

On the very first day, ‘Khau Galli’ witnessed a big crowd.  
 
While enjoying the bite, he remembered ‘Sambar Wadi’ he had tasted in Pune. During interaction with the stall-operator, he told him the recipe of ‘Puneri Sambar Wadi’. He also relished ‘Zunka-Bhakar’ and ‘Wada Paav’. Speaking on this occasion, Gadkari said that the concept of ‘Khau Galli’ was first introduced during the tenure of Sudhir alias Bandu Raut when he was Standing Committee chief.
 
The idea was to provide an affordable option to the people of Mahal, Chitnavispura, Ganjipeth, and different parts of Central Nagpur to enjoy various dishes. Gadkari advised NMC to ensure supply of safe and pure drinking water at ‘Khau Galli’. For the purpose, he assured to provide funds from MP Local Area Development Fund. Also, he appealed to the people to keep the area clean and make it a tourist destination. Joshi informed the gathering that there were total 32 stalls in ‘Khau Galli’. In the tender process for allotment of stalls, 78 entities participated.
 
Through draw of lots, 32 were chosen. In future, eight new stalls will be created. Closed circuit television cameras will be installed and security guards will be deployed in the premises, he said. Raut conducted the proceedings and Pramod Chikhale proposed a vote of thanks. Lata Kadgaye, Abhay Gotekar, Pramod Chikhale, Vijay Chutele, Harshala Sable, Dharmapal Meshram, Vijay alias Pintu Zalke, Ram Joshi, Additional Municipal Commissioner; Amol Chaurpagar, Garden Superintendent; Archana Dehankar, former Mayor; Manoj Sable were present on the occasion.
