Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to restart the operations of the Nagpur Darshan bus. Lot of changes in the deadline regarding re-start of its operations were experienced. But NMC is firm to resume the bus service on the lines of Khau Galli that was inaugurate on Thursday last. ‘The Hitavada’ has been raising both the issues consistently. Bunty Kukde, ex-Chairman of Transport Committee of NMC has introduced several innovative changes in the city bus service. He has vowed to restart the Nagpur Darshan bus service by January end.

NMC had run such bus a few years ago but was unsuccessful in attracting crowd. Due to poor response, the civic body had to discontinue its operations. “We studied the lacunas in the system by which Nagpur Darshan Bus functioned. I sat with all the officials and decided to remove the deficiencies so that the bus will have a smooth run. To begin with, the bus will be run for senior citizens only, then for women and children. Later on, it would accommodate citizens of all age groups,” explained Kukde.

When asked about any difference it would make following change of guard in Transport Committee with Narendra alias Balya Borkar taking over as its Chairman, Mayor Sandip Joshi said, “No. Bunty has done a good job and he would complete this particular project and we will surely relaunch it, like we did in case of Khau Galli.” “We will be adding some of the features wherein we will charge passenger a meager amount of Rs 50. Against that Rs 50 we will provide them a bottle of water and a packet of potato chips,” added Bunty Kukde. These buses will be given colourful look.

A tentative name that was decided by Kukde is ‘Nagpur Darshan bus’. The route will be same as was earlier bus used to have. Some more places can be added to its route. Roughly, the bus would cover Tekdi Ganesh Mandir, Deekshabhoomi, Reshimbag Smruti Mandir, Dragon Palace Temple, Seminary Hills, Airport, Maharajbag, Central Museum and other places of tourist attraction in city. “We have met some people from the society, some members of various Jyeshtha Nagarik Mandals in city. We appealed them to avail the benefits as well as we sought suggestions also,” elaborated Kukde. In Nagpur, there are some colleges running the courses of travel and tourism. Students of these courses can do internship with the tourism bus. They can have hands-on experience of tourism as a profession to begin with Nagpur Darshan Bus, the idea too is likely to be planned by Kukde.
