KEEPING in view proposed development of Defence Cluster in Madhya Pradesh, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Vivek Krishn Tankha met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and gave him a letter on January 8. In the meeting MP Tankha apprised the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh about the proposal to establish a Defence Production Unit in Madhya Pradesh. Jabalpur boasts of four Ordnance Factories with a large trained manpower. At present, these factories are witnessing a lean period with massive manpower reduction. The district administration has identified 700 acres of land to set up Defence Cluster.

He apprised the Defence Minister that he also made a request to the State of Madhya Pradesh to consider Jabalpur as appropriate place for setting up a Defence Cluster. As Jabalpur with its pre-established defence environment would also be right place for Defence Manufacturing Centre, which I believe is being considered for private sector. He also apprised Defence Minister Singh that Jabalpur has been budgeted Rs 400 crore by the Civil Aviation Ministry for upgradation of its airport. A cluster and upgradation will definitely benefit each other.
