Cyber cops arrest accused for online fraud

STATE Cyber Police Jabalpur Zone nabbed accused who stole personal details of individuals and used them in online shopping through credit cards. The accused has been identified as Ashish Verma (24), son of Sukhsen Prasad Verma, resident of Gokalpur area in Ranjhi. The accused had targeted only RBL Bank’s credit card users as it does not require one time password.
Superintendent of Police of State Cyber Police Jabalpur, Ankit Shukla disclosed this while addressing a press conference on Friday.
SP Shukla informed that a man named Pranay Kumar lodged a complaint that an unidentified person carried out online shopping through his credit card. Taking a serious note on the complaint, police started investigation through banking transactions and learnt that the accused carried out purchasing from Amazon online shopping by hacking G-mail account of the appellant.
Investigating the case, police learnt that the accused had developed a mobile application named Tohfaa on Google Playstore. Its users gave their details like name, mobile number, e-mail ID, password, date of birth etc. The accused had designed the mobile app the data given by users was automatically saved with the accused. He used details of users for hacking their e-mail accounts to get information about banking and financial details. He targeted only RBL credit card users which never asks one time password (OTP). The accused was apprehended with active working of State Cyber Police team comprising Inspector Vipin Tamrakar, SI, Shweta Singh, SI, Hemant Pathak, Head Constables, Manish Upadhyay, Constables, Ajit Gautam and Shubham Saini.
