Two policemen were seriously injured in the accident
 
In a bizarre accident, a car after having hit by a speeding jeep from behind jumped road divider and mowed down a police constable and a youth on other side of the road near Ramtek. Two on-duty policemen were also seriously injured in the mishap that occurred on Nagpur-Jabalpur Highway on Sunday morning, said police.
 
The deceased was identified as Ritesh Devrao Bhopre (32), police constable of Highway Police; Waiter of a hotel - Pappu Pal (28), a resident of Khumri village while injured policemen are Prakash Dohe and Ravindra Kamble. According to police, a team of Highway Police was deployed at Mararwadi turning for vehicle checking. When waiter Pappu Pal arrived at the checking point with breakfast and tea, Bhopre and two policemen crossed the road-divider.
 
They were having breakfast on other side of the road and Pappu was seated on his scooter there. Around same time, a Maruti Alto car (MH-31/EU-1175) was moving towards Nagpur followed by a Bolero jeep (MP-20/T-9124) and after spotting the cops the driver of the car suddenly applied brakes that slowed down the vehicle near the turning. Before the Bolero jeep driver could understand anything the jeep hit the car from behind with great speed. The hit was so powerful that the small car was tossed over road divider and mowed down the police constable and waiter.
 
A police official said that constable Bhopre and waiter Pappu sustained grievous injuries in the mishap. “Bhopre’s head was ruptured in the mishap and blood was oozing from his head. He died instantaneously due to severe blood loss,” the official said and added that Pappu was taken to hospital where he succumbed to the injuries. Condition of injured policemen is reportedly normal. Superintendent of Highway Police, Nagpur, Sanjay Shintare and PI Ramtek Dilip Thakur visited the spot. Ramtek police have arrested Bolero jeep driver - Shashi Asaram Kawale, a resident of Khawasa, Madhya Pradesh and booked him under Sections 279, 304 (a), 337, 338 and 427 of Indian Penal Code. Further investigation is on.
