RAIPUR,

Coming down heavily on the Bhupesh Baghel led Congress Government in State, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Vice- President Dr Raman Singh said that the duplicity in the political character of the ruling Congress Government has come to fore. Asserting that since the ruling Congress has come to power, it is continuously attacking on country’s federal structure the BJP National Vice-President said it is incessantly violating the constitutional provisions.

Dr Raman Singh’s comments came after the ruling Congress Government filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court on Wednesday against the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008, terming that it violates Constitution.

The Chhattisgarh Government is the first State to challenge the NIA Act in the Apex Court. Challenging the Act, the Chhattisgarh Government stated that due to the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008, the State ceases the power to conducting enquiry and that it gives discretionary and arbitrary powers to the Centre. Dr Raman Singh, apart from challenging the NIA Act, said that the ruling Congress Government is in direct conflict with the Centre on implementation of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019; Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 (CAA); National Population Register (NPR) apart from banning activities of Central Bureau of Investigation in State.

Now in its fresh initiatives, it has initiated drive towards stopping NIA from carrying out investigations against Left Wing Extremism related cases and other terror activities in the state. He said such moves by the state government arouse several doubts against it. It is surprising that the ruling Congress government thinks that NIA Act violates constitution. He said it is ironical that the government which is challenging the federal structure by violating constitutional provisions is talking about violation of constitution.

Dr Singh said NIA Act 2008 came into existence after terror attacks had taken place in Mumbai and later in 2019 it was amended. During the amendment process, hectic discussions had taken place in the Parliament which was participated by all parties including the Congress and with their ideas and proposals the Act was made more stringent and effective. Dr Singh it is also ironical that an Act which came into existence during Congress tenure is being challenged by a Congress state government.
