Major changes in HC roster from Jan 20
For the first time in the history of Nagpur bench, there will be five division benches and five single benches from January 20. Normally, the Nagpur bench always had two or at the most three benches, but post Winter vacations, four division benches were constituted and from Monday, one more division bench would be added. Though the number of judges has not changed, the assignment of judges has been changed to a great extent. Newly appointed judge Justice Amit Borkar has been posted at Nagpur. At the same time, Justice Anil Kilor, presently a Aurangabad, has also been posted at Nagpur.
 
Justice Ravi Deshpande will continue as Senior Administrative Judge. He will continue to take up the all PILs, all civil writ petitions of the years 2019 and 2020, all letters patent appeals and all other division bench civil cases not assigned to any other Court. Justice Amit Borkar will be his brother judge. Justice Pradeep Deshmukh and Justice Pushpa Ganediwala will deal with all criminal writ petitions, all criminal work up to the year 2015 and all first appeals and family court appeals. The third division bench division bench consisting of Justice Sunil B Shukre and Justice Madhav Jamdar will handle all criminal work of the year 2016 and onwards except the work assigned to any other court. The fourth division bench consisting of Justice Z A Haq and Justice S M Modak will take up all civil writ petitions of even years up to the year 2018.
 
The newly constituted fifth division bench consisting of Justice Atul Chandurkar and Justice Vinay Joshi has been entrusted with all civil writ petitions of the odd years upto the year 2017. Justice Vinay M Deshpande has been assigned to hear all bail and anticipatory bail applications, all criminal appeals of all categories from the year 2010 and onwards, except criminal appeals assigned to any other Single Bench, all criminal applications under section 482 CrPC and criminal writ petitions from the year 2016 and onwards and all single bench criminal work not assigned to any other Court.
 
Justice Swapna Joshi will continue to take up all criminal appeals of all categories up to the year 2009, except criminal appeals assigned to any other Court, all criminal applications under section 482 CrPC prior to the year 2016, all the criminal writ petitions prior to the year 2016. all criminal applications under section 407 of Cr P C.and all criminal revision applications.
 
Justice M G Giratkar will hear all first appeals up to the year 2014, all second appeals of even years and of the year 2019, all Misc. civil applications. Justice Avinash Gharote has been assigned to hear all the civil writ petitions upto the year 2015, all appeals against orders and all second appeals of the years 2019 and 2020. Justice Anil Kilor will deal hear all the first appeals upto the year 2016, all second appeals upto the year 2017 and civil contempt petitions not specifically assigned to any other court.
