Rescued leopard loses bat
DESPITE several efforts by the doctors and the entire team of foresters, the leopard undergoing treatment at School of Wildlife Forensic and Health, Jabalpur, lost the battle of life on Thursday.

The leopard was around two-and-half to three years old. Autopsy of the leopard will be done at 10 am on Friday. The leopard was undergoing treatment at School of Wildlife Forensic and Health, Jabalpur and was taken to the Surgery Department of Veterinary Hospital for stitches after sustaining serious injuries.

Surgery experts after thorough examination and anesthesia placed stitches in its severed parts on the basis of X ray and sonography and did successful treatment. During treatment, stitches were placed in 6 layers on 8 to 10 inches wound on left side of his back and 6 inches deep wound on the right side so that stitches should not break.

After four-hour surgery performed with joint efforts of the Surgery Department of Veterinary College, Kanha Tiger Reserve and School and Wildlife Forensic and Health, the leopard was brought back to the School of Wildlife Forensic and Health. Ensuring intensive care, doctors kept on administering medicines to the leopard on expert’s advice. The leopard regained consciousness after three hours of surgery and his condition was normal at that time. But, after some time his rate of respiration declined gradually. Immediately, doctors made efforts to bring him back to normal through artificial respiration. But, unfortunately even after hard toil the leopard lost the battle of life. A team of Forest Department and Veterinary College had rescued the leopard from defence land adjacent to Jammu and Kashmir Rifles Regimental Centre (JAK RRC) in Chhevla village on Tuesday. The leopard was trapped in fencing and sustained serious injuries. The injured leopard was taken to School of Wildlife Forensic and Health Centre of Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University for treatment.
