The new administrative building of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University Nagpur was inaugurated at the hands of Governor and Chancellor Bhagatsingh Koshyari, on December 19 last. However, no department of the University has been shifted to the new building so far. Vice-Chancellor Dr S P Kane stated that the departments will be shifted to the new building in the next two to three weeks.

 

The building was constructed under CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Fund of Bajaj Group of Industries. Besides Rs 10 crore received under the CSR, the University made available more fund for the construction of additional floor in the building.

 

The building has been named after philanthropist Jamnalal Bajaj. The old beautiful building near Maharajbag will be retained by the University and the premises will be beautified. The present Convocation Hall will be used for organising lectures and seminars. The ground behind the building, which was called Convocation Ground and buildings accommodating Academic Section, Examination Section and Printing Press will be renovated and used as guest house for visitors to the University for different purposes. The ground and the guest house can also be used on commercial basis for generating revenue for the University, Dr Kane stated.
