“There is hardly any big cases not cracked in 2019 as many big cases such as infamous double-murder and recovery of burnt bodies of mother/daughter along with busting big gangs of thieves, actions on loan-sharks, helmet gang robbers, chain snatching gang were sorted out without Crime Branch,” claimed Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shaikh Arif Husen as he gave figures of crimes in 2019. Addressing the press conference, SSP Shaikh Arif Husen stated that they left no stone unturned to get justice to the victims and maintained peace even during the decision on Ayodhya Ram Temple, Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register for Citizenship (NRC) and big festivals.
 
In 2019, Police distributed 16,000 helmets and will soon be launching second edition of the helmet drive. Total 22 life sentences were served in serious cases. There was some marginal increase in cases of abductions, but police got big success in recovery of missing girls. No dacoity happed in 2019 against 9 cases in 2018 whereas cases of murders jumped from 59 in 2018 to 73 in 2019, cases of abduction in 2018 were 402 in comparison to 445 cases in 2019. Capital city recovered 12 per cent growth in break-in cases comparing to 24 per cent 2018 whereas cases of loot grew by 29 per cent in 29 per cent in comparison to 9 per cent in 2019. Awareness about friendly policing has seen growth.
 
People are following up on crimes by calling to police and appreciate police’s work. Upholding the motto of ‘Paritranaya Sadhunaam’, they have even acted up on erring police personnel while simultaneously awarding the best performing. Raipur is running short of 700 personnel and he has sent a proposal to State Government in this regard. Total cases of break-ins increased to 583 in 2019 from 521 in 2018. Police personnel felicitated included 62 Inspectors, 40 Sub-Inspectors, 47 Assistant Sub-Inspectors, 117 Head Constables, 381 Constables, punished 127; salary held back of 14, 4 ASI and 17 constables were fined. Police also opened files of big cases like Bothra Murder Case, Chhachan Pairi and road rages.
