Women in the State capital have now taken to the streets to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the proposed National Population Register (NPR). A satyagrah has been launched by the youths, from different walks of life, at the Iqbal Maidan to oppose the amended citizenship act. The protestors say they will proceed on the trail of Mahatma Gandhi until the CAA is withdrawn.

The women present at the protest appealed to the Prime Minister to take this contentious Citizenship Act, as it was against the constitution and said they will keep protesting until the act is withdrawn. The elderly people have also come in support of the youths and were seen raising slogans against the proposed NRC and NPR. A signature campaign will be launched after the Namaz-e-Juma across the city to express resistance against the deadly NRC, said state secretary, Jamiyat Ulema Hind, Hazi Imran Harun. He added that signatures would be taken from the citizens of Bhopal and a memorandum would be submitted to the President of India demanding withdrawal of this act.

Communist Party of India has also extended its support to the protest and has declared a ‘Bhopal Bandh’ on January 8. Party’s State Spokesperson Shailendra Kumar Shaily said that the party workers will appeal to the citizens to keep their shops shut to oppose this act and to save their constitutional rights.
