First ever water sports and adventure tourism festival in the state was organised in Jabalpur during the year 2010. Thereafter, several efforts were made for development of water sports and adventure tourism in the district but not a single water sports or adventure tourism centre established in the district.

On the other hand, a mega event of Water Sports and Adventure Tourism is being organised at Hanumantiya in Khandwa. Despite having two cabinet ministers and two Members of Parliament, Jabalpur is facing the apathy of budget crises in promotion of water sports and adventure tourism.

Jabalpur Tourism Promotion Council (JTPC), Chief Executive Officer, Hemant Singh, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’, informed that a proposal for organising Jheel Mahotsav at Bargi Water Reservoir was sent and waiting for green signal from the higher authorities. He informed that efforts are being made for promotion of water sports and adventure tourism with private participation. Private event groups engaged in water sports and adventure tourism activities will be given contract for organising water sports and adventure tourism events for its desired promotion and attracting tourists in the district.

Sources informed that JTPC had sent a proposal, in September 2019, demanding the budget of Rs 2 crores for organising
Water Sports and Adv
enture Tourism Festival but the same
was declined by the State Government due to fund crises. Revised proposal of organising only water sports events was sent in December 2019 but the same is still waiting for the clearance.
